To provide food to the disabled and elderly population in Kiev and Kharkiv, the Foundation played a key role in the charitable program "With Kindness and respect". During 2001, 3395 pensioners and disabled men and women received food packages in Kyiv and over 600 individuals obtained similar support in Kharkiv. This program includes the resources of a wide range of donors and supporters :JSC "Phillip Morris Ukraine", the Phillip Morris Fund, the Valeriy Vostrotin International Charity Foundation. Additionally, the program partnered with city and district territorial centres of social protection of pensioners and other socially unprotected citizens.
A second program focuses on the impact of the Chernobyl tragedy on children. The damage caused by the Chernobyl accident and the consequences of this catastrophe most strongly impacted the least protected and the most fragile subset of the Ukrinian population-the children. In response, the IDC International began to focus on fundraising activities for support for medical establishments that provide medical treatment to children suffering from disorders caused by the accident. In 2001, such support was provided to the Scientific Center of Radiation Medicine of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Donation from Phillip Morris Fund in the amount of UAH 218.500 was used to purchase equipment, reagents and drugs for children suffering from the consequences of the Chernobyl accident.
Third, severe flooding and resulting fatalities in several regions prompted the Foundation to initiate a program to assist villages damaged by natural disasters. In Spring 2001 flooding significantly damaged villages in the Zakarpatiye region. Under the program, the Foundation purchased drugs for medical establishments of the Zakarpatiye region to assist men and women who required medical assistance as a result of the floods. In June 2001, floods damaged several villages and caused fatalities in the Kharkiv region. Again, the IDC International with financial support from JSC "Phillip Morris Ukraine", was able to provide financial assistance to the victims for rebuilding their ruined homes.
Respect to the human being, as a higher social value, inspired a fourth charity program, that of domestic violence prevention. In this capacity, the IDC Internatinal provided support for the formation of a national program of domestic violence prevention by engaging non-governmental organizations and professionals in the fight against domestic violence, and by providing assistance to the victims of the domestic violence through accomodation at special shelters.
Formerly supported by the Phillip Morris Fund, the Innovation and Development Centre has taken on a fifth program, the Kharkiv and Kyiv-based "Clean City" program. To date, this program, administrated by Kyiv Civic Organization "Innovation and Development Centre" led to the construction of children's playground and the cleaning of the Pavliv yard in Kyiv, the restoration of five architectural objects in the State Museum of National Architecture and Art, the construction of Sport Glory Alley in the Shevchenko city park in Kharkiv. In 2001, the Idc International implemented an initiative to clean up and plant 50 trees and 1500 bushes in the Pozniaky city park in Kyiv. The Foundation also co-organized the campaign "Plant Your Own Tree" along with the National Ukrainian Ecological League. As a result, inhabitants of area homes, along with members of the ecological movement from the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, the Academy of Municipal Management, and the National Ukrainian Children's Union "Ecological Guards" have planted trees at the Pozniaky city park.
To celebrate cultural diversity in Ukraine, in 2001 the IDC International conceptualized and coordinated the Celebration of National Traditions "Folklorama". During this celebration, Kyiv-based cultural associations presented their traditions, history and culture to approximately 6000 festival attendees on June 29-30, 2001 at the State Museum of Natonal Architecture of Ukraine in Pirogovo. The event was co-organized by the Department of Nationalities' Affairs and Migration of the Kyiv City State Administration, the Chief Department of Higher Comissar of UN on refugees' Affairs the State Museum of National Architecture of Ukraine, and 22 civic organizations and natonal-cultural communities in the Kyiv.
